ssaw is a small, independently run outdoor shop based in the Kii Peninsula, Japan.

A product does not need to be famous to catch my attention. I am drawn to clever tools, thoughtful details, and ideas I have not seen before.

When I find something like that, I stop and think:

“What is this? I want to know more. I want to try it.”

That sense of curiosity is what I hope to share with outdoor users in Japan.

If you came here after receiving a message from ssaw, it is because something you made genuinely caught my attention.

It may have been a small design detail, a practical way of solving a problem, or simply an idea that felt new to me.

I contacted you because I would like more people in Japan to know about it—and because I could imagine it finding a place at ssaw.

If you heard about a small, slightly unusual shop in Japan that brings together interesting gear from around the world, you heard right.

I am especially interested in products that are not yet widely available in Japan. At the same time, ssaw also carries thoughtfully made products from small independent makers in Japan.

There is no need to begin with anything complicated. A short conversation is a good place to start.

If I introduce a product in Japan, I handle it myself: checking its weight, materials, and details, photographing it, and explaining it carefully in Japanese.

I hope to share not only what a product is, but also the thinking behind it.
